Lent is the season of turning to God in simplicity and sincerity as we prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter.
St. Mary School invites you to participate in the Lenten practices of prayer and almsgiving. Our Lenten gatherings will take place in our school’s gymnasium and are scheduled as follows:

Lent Week 2  - Thursday, February 26, 2015 (10:40  a.m.)

Lent Week 3 - Tuesday, March 3, 2015  (1:30 p.m.)

Lent Week 4 - Thursday, March 12, 2015 (1:30 p.m.)

Lent Week 5 - Thursday, March 26, 2015 (10:00 a.m.)

Holy Thursday Service (Stations of the Cross)Thursday, April 2, 2015  (10:00 a.m.)

This year we have chosen a non-profit organization known as “Lions club GonaïvesIII- Savane de l’Espoir”whose mission it is to provide opportunities to Haitian children who live in abject poverty.  Starting Friday February 19th until Tuesday, April 7,2015, students from kindergarten to Grade 6 and their family members will be encouraged to purchase special St. Mary stamps. Each stamp will cost 25 cents.  The St. Mary stamps are only available at the school.   Each class has selected a unique mailing address (i.e. Gisele Gateway, Haskell’s Hollow, Grenier Grove).  Students will be able to write letters and use the stamps to mail letters to their friends, classmates, brothers/sisters and staff members.  Parents can also write letters, purchase stamps and have their letters mailed to their children.   A red mailbox, donated by Canada Post and located in the main foyer, will be available to mail the letters. The money raised by the sale of these stamps will help children receive three meals a day and access to educational tools that will support them in their studies.

Our Catholic Graduate Expectation this month is “A Caring Family Member”.  Our Lent Project will encourage positive communication between members of the school community.  A simple letter written by hand, sent to a friend from school, can make a big difference in someone's life. In connection with the teachings of the Catholic faith and our Gospel values we are trying to unite the world's children despite their distance.

OUR LADY OF THE VISITATION PARISH

In an effort to help the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti, over the next few weeks, students across all grades will be asked to bring outer, printed milk bags to school.  These bags will be cut into strips and woven into durable, waterproof, sleeping mats, which are also

parasite resistant.

Thank you for your support.
