PLEASE SUPPORT OUR LENTEN PROJECT!

posted by Rosanne Popp   [ updated ]

Our school has partnered with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul - North of 60. This organization gathers non-perishables and arranges sea containers for delivery to communities that are in need. We will collect items for the Rankin Inlet Sharing Centre.

IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE CONSIDER SENDING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING TO THE SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN:

 - white sugar (1kg-2.5 kg bags)

- white all-purpose flour (2.5 kg or smaller)

- Crisco vegetable oil (must be Crisco brand)

- Crisco vegetable shortening (must be Crisco brand and this product must be packaged in a tub in order to avoid spillage in case it melts during transportation.)

- canned vegetables (corn, peas, carrots)

Kindly ensure that your donations' "Best Before Date" is 2020 or later. Items will be collected from now until Wednesday, April 17th.

HOT LUNCH CANCELLED TOMORROW, THURS FEB 14

posted Feb 13, 2019, 1:23 PM by Rosanne Popp

Hot Lunch tomorrow,Thursday Feb. 14 (which was to be Pasta Day) is cancelled and has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, February 19.  All students, including those who had ordered Pasta, are asked to bring their own lunches to school for tomorrow.  Schools will be open tomorrow, Thurs. Feb. 14, and it is likely that transportation will be in place.  Parents are asked to check ottawaschoolbus.ca anytime after 6am tomorrow to find out about possible bus cancellations or delays.  As mentioned however, tomorrow's hot lunch (which was to be Pasta Day) has been cancelled and is rescheduled for Tuesday, February 19th.
Why is Hot Lunch cancelled?
Unfortunately, earlier today it was unclear whether schools would be open and/or whether transportation would be cancelled due to some streets still being impassable.  While we now know that schools will be open and we will know after 6am tomorrow if buses are running as usual, we had to make the decision about Hot Lunch early on Wednesday, due to the lead time needed by our pasta supplier.
With 300 pasta meals ordered for tomorrow, our concern was the possible waste of food as well as the financial cost to School Council if we went forward with Hot Lunch and then found out that schools were closed and/or buses cancelled.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

ST. MARY SCHOOL ADVENT PROJECTS

posted Dec 10, 2018, 6:24 AM by Rosanne Popp

During Advent our school focus is on “Community”. One way we can exemplify this Gospel Value as a school community is by reaching out to others, in a spirit of sharing and compassion.  To do this, we will be supporting some families at our own school, working with two other Catholic elementary schools who have a larger number of families to support, raising money for WE Schools and collecting items for The Shepherds of Good Hope.  For all the details on how you can help, just click here.
